The annotated answers to the Autumn Quiz 2012

Here are the annotated answers to the Autumn Quiz. We've now marked all the entries and will announce the winner this afternoon (Sunday 16th).
Many thanks to everyone who supported this. It raised over £1200 and I hope everyone found it fun to solve.

Autumn Quiz Update...

A busy week of Quizzing...

Many thanks to the St Peter's Community Group in Stamford for £153 donated to Macmillan at their Quiz night on Thursday 15th November.

Thanks too to the staff & customers of The Lord Nelson in Oakham for £117 raised during the series of four quizzes I ran there this Autumn.

The Autumn Quiz is now available...

The Autumn Quiz can now be pre-ordered at http://www.justgiving.com/TheAutumnQuiz2012. Copies will be sent out by email starting on Sunday 4th November.

The quiz consists of 62 book titles defined by cryptic clues and there will be a prize of £50 in John Lewis vouchers for the first correct entry drawn at random after the closing date on Friday 7 December.

I should like to record my debt of gratitude to my friend Dave Cowley who used to help proofread my quizzes for me and who passed away unexpectedly suddenly on Thursday 14th June aged just 57.

The Summer Quiz update

Thank you to everyone for a record-breaking start to the Summer Quiz. Over 100 online donations and over £500 raised by the end of the launch day yesterday. What a great start.

Just one minor glitch to report - on the first batch of paper copies which are on sale in the usual places in Stamford, the word 'Belgium' wrongly appears as 'Belguim'!

First fully correct entry was received at 11.34 on Tuesday 12th June....

Update on The Spring Quiz Winners.....

Because The Spring Quiz broke all records for my fundraising so far, I have been persuaded to award an additional fourth prize of a £10 John Lewis voucher, which has been won by

Thank you to The Orange Tree, Leicester

I yesterday collected £35 from The Orange Tree in Leicester High Street for sales of the Spring Quiz so far. Many thanks to the staff and customers for that.

As an aside, The Orange Tree has to be my favourite city-centre pub. I can thoroughly recommend it. Their rump steak stuffed with courgette & spinach on a bed of sauteed new potatoes yesterday was very good.

105 entries were received, of which 22 were correct and went into the draw for the prize of £30 of John Lewis vouchers.  32 people got just one answer wrong and 22 people got just two wrong........

Correction to the Spring Quiz

There are two corrrections to the first batch of copies of the quiz which were sent out:-

Question 35 should read “A place in which policeman follows Nora’s return. (5,7)”

Question 43 should read "Yan is stuck in British Rail ship. (5,5)
